Quote of the Year

Elizabeth Edwards -- wife of ex-Democratic candidate John Edwards and "currently a health care advisor to Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign" -- discussed her objections to McCain's healthcare policy in a story in Tuesday's DC Examiner:
McCain’s plan fails in all important areas by leaving the decision-making process up to individuals, who can frequently "make stupid economics decisions."
This from a party which imagines itself dedicated to the common peoples--just not to individual people.

..As opposed to governments, who routinely make... ah... brilliant economics decisions?

How much has the US Post Office spent in the last 40 years chasing the Holy Grail of handwriting recognition?

This despite the fact that, for that same 40 years, a fairly adequate replacement has been readily available in the form of bar codes and personal computers to print them? This technology would be sufficient that probably, oh, about 98%, of all mail would only need human attention twice -- once to take it out of the mailbox, and once to put it IN the recieving mailbox.

But no, it's not our money, so, what the hey -- let's spend lots of it on handwriting recognition. Did I mention we need a rate increase this year?
