Liberal Hate Crime

Democratic Senator Tom Harkin faults McCain for being a vet:
Republican presidential candidate John McCain's family background as the son and grandson of admirals has given him a worldview shaped by the military, "and he has a hard time thinking beyond that," Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Ia., said Friday.

"I think he's trapped in that," Harkin said in a conference call with Iowa reporters. "Everything is looked at from his life experiences, from always having been in the military, and I think that can be pretty dangerous."

Harkin said that "it's one thing to have been drafted and served, but another thing when you come from generations of military people and that's just how you're steeped, how you've learned, how you've grown up."
This is hugely ironic: Harkin was caught embellishing his own military record in the early 1990s.

But the sentiment at least is genuine: The left doesn't support our troops. How do I know? They admit it--and Right Wing News collects the quotes.

One can see Harkin's point. The very last background one would want the Command in Chief to have is military. Everyone knows that the best qualification for directing something is to know nothing whatsoever about it and further more to despise the rank and file in the enterprise.

Instead we should elect a Buddhist monk. What the heck - maybe we should dismiss all the officer corps and install Buddhist monks, or at least individuals who spent the sixties stuffing flowers in the barrels of rifles. Perhaps this is why the Buddhist nuns and monks vowed to poverty were such heavy contributors to Hillary's campaign, indeed, only outclassed by the illegal Chinese maids who are no doubt also Buddhists.

After all, one just needs to speak respectfully to people who strap bombs on children and then they'll go all peaceful on us. Then we can have a group hug and everything will be all right. This has worked so very well for the Tibetan Buddhists, and the Burmese Buddhists. It's a veritable explosion of joy, flowers, and bodies floating like lotuses of peace upon the waters which Gaia has lovingly poured out upon her children.

It's sure a good thing that the Buddhists of Burma aren't begging the American military to throw out their leaders, eh? Because that would require someone like McCain, who is mean, nasty and military.

From your riduculous "The left doesn't support our troops" link: Well, unless "supporting" is defined as "killing,"

Oh, OK, so what is putting 100,000+ of our troops in Iraq for questionable reasons, with not even a scintilla of a post-invasion plan, or even a definition of victory* - what is that except killing troops?

Wake up - there was never a chance that this was going to end well, and there still isn't. We support our troops by getting them out of this no-win situation in the minimum amount of time.

This "not supporting the troops" meme is re-cycled McCarthyism - the right has no argument with legs, so it is (again) reduced to impugning the patriotism of its critics.
