It's Over

The bad news: The outrageous immigration "compromise" -- a compromise between the left and the far left -- gives the Dems the 2008 election. Mickey Kaus:
On the heels of his triumphant announcement of a breakthrough "comprehensive" immigration deal, President Bush's support has ... "fallen to the lowest level ever recorded"! Pollster Scott Rassmussen notes:

The president's ratings have tumbled each time immigration reform dominates the news.

Using advanced, high-tech tools, Karl Rove has found the last pocket of support for Bush and destroyed it with laser-like efficiency.

The good news: Because the Dems are scared of screwing up the economy, we won't have to hear anything about global warming after January 20, 2009.

More than hostility to illegal immigrants, I think a lot of the backlash is driven by the sense that Washington insiders don't really value what ordinary law-abiding people do by way of living their lives and, you know, abiding by the law. A voter scorned, and all that . . . .
