It's not just the Washington Post--now, ultra-leftist Village Voice is gunning for candidate Kerry. Today's edition says the Haughty Hairdo "covered-up" ample evidence North Vietnam still held American MIAs--in order to claim credit for normalizing relations with Hanoi! Right-wing muckraking? I think not--the article, titled "When John Kerry's Courage Went M.I.A.," is authored by liberal lion Sydney Schanberg. Yep, that's right, Sam Waterston himself, the former NY Times war correspondent who exposed Cambodia's genocide in "The Killing Fields." Waterston. . .ur, a. . .Schanberg says Kerry, then Chairman of the purportedly neutral Senate select committee on POWs/MIAs, bent double to bury the issue:
When Defense Department officials were coming to testify, Kerry would have his staff director, Frances Zwenig, meet with them to "script" the hearings--as detailed in an internal Zwenig memo leaked by others. Zwenig also advised North Vietnamese officials on how to state their case. Further, Kerry never pushed or put up a fight to get key government documents unclassified; he just rolled over, no matter how obvious it was that the documents contained confirming data about prisoners. Moreover, after promising to turn over all committee records to the National Archives when the panel concluded its work, the senator destroyed crucial intelligence information the staff had gathered--to keep the documents from becoming public.Remember, this is Sid Schanberg--talk about "street cred!!"
So, let's review the bidding: A candidate for President, involved in a cover-up, conspiring with his staff and shredding documents. It somehow seems so familiar. . .
With Sam Waterston staring as John Kerry in the movie.
