I think he's trying to make a claim that, having gained an upper hand, the WSJ is capitalizing on it, and crowding out the alternatives.
If so, how this explains the steady decline of the already vastly upper-hand NYT is, of course, A Question Not To Be Asked, since it doesn't fit the paradigm he wants to apply. Nothing new there, of course.
