Speechless

It beggars belief: a Federal district judge in (where else?) California allowed enviro-nut groups and cities to sue the Federal government over global warming. Specifically Judge Jeffrey White -- a Bush nominee!1 -- refused to dismiss the case on summary judgment. The lefties2 aim to stop the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Export-Import Bank from providing insurance and loans guarantees to developing countries and assistance to American exporters. They would halt billions in funding for development projects, like power plants, that "emit greenhouses gases such as carbon dioxide that are believed to be a leading cause of global warming." This is the "first time that a federal court has specifically granted legal standing for a lawsuit exclusively challenging the Federal government's failure to evaluate the impacts of its actions on the earth's climate and U.S. citizens."

It's true that plenty of legal hurdles remain before any decision on the merits. But it should never have gone this far. Imagine: the loony left suing to cut foreign aid to developing countries on thin evidence and weak causality.

Calling Justice Roberts, stat.
______________

1 Judge White's no conservative. Earlier this year, he dismissed "many arguments by a conservative Christian group seeking to be reinstated as a student organization despite University of California Hastings College of the Law policies that forbid discriminating against gays."

2 Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, Boulder, Colorado, and Arcata and Oakland, California.

Does this mean we can sue NARAL, NAMBLA, and Planned Parenthood for the erosion of morals in America?

Planned Parenthood for sure, since they receive Federal funding.
