Lions, Tigers and Bears: Oh My!

Stuart at Random Useless Info is an obsessed nerd. But, in my book, that's good. Anyway, he's saved receipts from "each gallon of gas [he] bought over the past 26 years or so." (Yikes!) And he's plotted the prices and adjusted for inflation. Unsurprisingly, a fill-up today costs no more than it did in mid-1983.

Surf over and take a peek.

Lynne Kiesling:
[B]etween economic growth and increased fuel efficiency, the amount we spend to pay for fuel is a decreasing share of our household budgets, and is a much lower share than in the 1970s. It's expensive and annoying, yes, but it's not the big budget item in most budgets that it used to be.
