He's (Not) Dead, Jim

Out of surgery; I survived. I'll be recovery blogging for the next few days. I don't imagine it'll be as exciting as election blogging.

Though no surgery is fun, Johns Hopkins is an excellent hospital, with tremendous doctors and a fantastic staff. My favorite is my recovery-room nurse, who is a full Commander in the Naval Reserve. She had great stories about her tour on a hospital ship during Gulf War I. After about an hour, I mentioned I'm in the middle of reading Arthur Herman's new book about the Royal Navy, To Rule the Waves. She responded: "I know; I saw. That's why I decided to tell you I'm in the Navy."
