Dirty Tricks

[previous post in series here] Updated 11pm

No wonder I didn't spot fraud at early polling. The Dems were busy today--but on the Internet, not at the ballot.

The Lee County Republican website (no link here, for reasons that will become obvious in a moment) includes a page permitting users to volunteer for the President's re-election. In the past 24 hours, the party got three time as many volunteers as normal in a day. Sounds good, right?

Nope--it's a Dem dirty trick. When contacted, over 70 percent of the new names turned out to be registered Democrats, mostly Kerry supporters. Clearly it was worth some Lee County Democrat's time to enter more than a thousand bogus names into the Republican database, prompting a call from Republican headquarters, wasting the time of our volunteers. And, of course, prompting an unwanted call to Florida Democrats. Proposed disctinction between Democrats and Republicans: Democrats will sacrifice their own (Lee county supporters, taxpayers, American troops, etc.) for their self interest.

In the scheme of things, it's a minor annoyance. But, it forces us to stop signing up new help from the web site. Any potential volunteers for the Lee county Republican party should call our office, not use the web.

As I've said before, "So much for the "conventional wisdom" that Republicans are mean."
