Remembering Chester Carlson

The creator of the Xerox copier, among the last of the solo inventors, died 36 years ago today. Carlson's story--and the story of the Xerox Corporation, originally called Haloid--is well told in a new book by David Owen: Copies in Seconds. Mr. Carlson made a fortune, then gave most of it away--anonymously--before he died. RIP Chester Carlson, who died September 19, 1968, aged 62 years.
