Program Notes

Work has slowed, but now I've got the flu (maybe I got it from MaxedOutMama). So blogging will remain light-to-non-existent 'till I recover.

I'd advise you to let that be a while. A stupid virus. Those who have taken the Tamiflu early say it really works.

It's sure making me stupid--I can't read more than two sentences in a row w/o resting. There's no way I could write essays. . .

I took Tamiflu about 36 hours into it, and I think it's working. Codeine-based cough syrup is key as well.

For both colds and flus I've found both an antihistamine like benadryl and an expectorant like mucinex (the same ingredient in many cough syrups, which is how I usually get it) also highly useful, along with making a particular effort to sleep on your side, if you are able and/or don't normally.

All three aid substantially in keeping it from migrating from your head to your chest, which usually means you spend extra days fighting it in both locations instead of one. And a chest infection is generally a hell of a lot more debilitating and theoretically dangerous than a head one usually is.

Oh, and, take it easy, Carl.

;-)

It is "to deeply rest" that is best...

Sorry to hear you picked it up as well.

I too caught it several weeks ago from any one of the countless patients I have seen and treated with H1N1- I know how bad it can be first hand.

Rest, eat lots of chicken soup and please get better soon.

Be well

Thanks all! I've had a relapse today (cough, fever, fatigue). So, until the fog lifts, NOfP will remain at one post per day.

M_O_M and Thai--how long did that take for you?

Thai said...

Extreme misery 3 days, general misery for another 5 and a persistent cough for perhaps another 10-12 days.

A significant relapse should warrant evaluation for pneumonia, etc...

Best of luck

LOL, I find the automatic assumption that it's H1N1 amusing, too. There's always more than one rolling around.

Yeah, but my doc said it probably was H1N1, especaially because I had a regular flu shot.
And thanks Thai.
