Blame Canada. . .

. . . for forthcoming enhanced security requirements when entering America via our northern border? One Canadian is dumbfounded:
Like most Canadians I rooted for you madly and cried when you were elected President-of-The-World.

Yes, Mr. President, I know your border policy is just a continuation of Bush-league ones you inherited. But you don't have the excuse Bush did: He was dim and you're brilliant. So why blame us?

The furriners, just like the local yokels, are finding out to their chagrin that Mr. Hopey Changey's appeal came from millions projecting their hopes upon him. Mr. Hopey Changey's appeal was not based on his qualities of leadership nor on his alleged profound policy proposals, but on his ability to convince millions holding varieties of contradicting ideas that he agreed with them all. Just keep hoping and fantasizing for the changing you want.Politics as fantasy.

Which somehow reminds me of the best Pierre Elliott Trudeau quote, which I can't find on the net, but quote from Mark Kurlansky's book 1968: The Year that Rocked the World at 352:

"We Canadians have to remember that the United States is kind of a sovereign state too."

Yes, the NYT writers suffered a similar "this can't be happening" meltdown in their lead story a few days ago on indefinate detention. What is the first stage of grief? Denial, I think. Oh well, caveat emptor, eh.

Well, that's why he's a Canadian and not an American. His ancestors were too stupid to revolt against The George.
