"Oceania was Always at War with Eurasia" of the Day

Barack Obama's campaign website promised:
Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.
As Angie Drobnic Holan relates on PolitiFact, Obama already has approved two laws in derogation of this vow: the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act--signed two days after it passed the House, and without previously being posted on the White House website--and the expansion of the State Children's Health Insurance Fund--signed just hours after Congressional approval, with only a draft version on the website for only three days.

White House spokesman Tommy Vietor says: "The President remains committed to bringing more transparency to government, and . . . will be implementing this policy in full soon." "Soon" meaning, presumably, well before we figure out what to do about Git'mo.

So much in American political life which seems confusing and inconsistent at first becomes clear when you remember a simple principle: liberals cannot win in most places unless they cheat and lie. Republicans often lie for individual reasons, or lie about how conservative they are. But conservatives do not depend on untruths for their philosophy. Not that everything they say turns out as they predict, but because their base principles hew more closely to unpredictable reality.

Not sure I agree with "cheat and lie"--it's more like a claim that liberal know best, so if you let them run your lives, everything will improve.

And when they don't, and they ruin your life, then, by definition, "everything has improved".
