Of Mice and Men

Maybe there really are two Americas: California and the rest of the country. Today's evidence is a letter to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle printed March 17th. It's from San Leandro resident Vernon S. Burton, and it says, in its entirety

Editor -- It was very encouraging to see how the people in Spain responded this past weekend to the devastating terrorist attack they suffered last week. Instead of whining about being innocent victims and listening to a lot of jingoistic nonsense, the people of Spain accepted that they were targeted because their leaders sided with the United States and the Israelis in the Middle East. Congratulations to the Spanish people for sending their misleaders packing. Too bad Americans aren't that smart.

If Burton, or San Francisco, represent the "other" America, I'm glad they're 3000 miles away.
