In addition to Frank at Common Sense Junction, Paul Deignan at Info-Theory is tracking blogs for/against the Miers confirmation. And don't miss John Hawkins's round-up of quotes about Miers.

the funny thing is... I would have been fine with them nominating someone else like Roberts.

Dingo, I fully agree--that's exactly why I'm so disappointed!

Roberts was a grand-slam home run--even for objective legal-maven liberals such as you. Not, of course, because he's conservative, but because Roberts is the brightest, most experienced and best appellate lawyer in DC--and affable (actually, hilarious) as well. I think he'll be the finest Chief since WWII (admittedly, an easy objective).

Presuming (which I don't, but never mind) O'Connor's replacement need be female, Ann Coulter's comparison was both brutal and accurate: "if the top male lawyer in the country is John Roberts," Harriet Miers is nowhere near America's top female lawyer.

I know Roberts slightly, having jointly been board members of a political organization in '99-'00. I've met Miers only once. But I can confirm without cavil your suspicion: Miers is no Roberts.
