UPDATE: Final vote: 72-25, which AP hilariously calls "a vote that broke largely along party lines." Alito is supported by well more than the 50 Senators needed for the confirmation vote at 11 am tomorrow.
Cloture is about to carry; the filibuster failed. I'll update the final tally but, so far, 1 Republican defection -- Chafee (Rino-RI) -- can't trump around 17 principled Democrats (who knew?!), including Minority Leader Harry Reid!
CORRECTION: Whoops--Reid voted no.
