Boondoggle Canceled

According to Darcey at Dust My Broom, the plan of five Canadian MPs for a global tour of red light districts won't be green-lighted:
Liberal MP Roger Gallaway, vice-chairman of the liaison committee, said backlash from angry constituents likely doomed the trip.

"I think it's going to fail. There's too much public push-back. I've heard nothing about Gomery but a whole bunch about this," he said. "They think it's bizarre."
Does blocking deployment of the MPs' weapons signal a renewed interest in missile defense?

Personally I think it was their wives!

I can just imagine the discussion around the dinner table or in the bedroom. "You're going to Reno to do WHAT?"

Apparently, the answer would have been "to visit a gigolo"--two of the five MPs were female!

See? That's why we always should use gender-neutral language. I don't think the men would be all that thrilled either.

I have the same position on gender neutrality as Winston Churchill:

Another amusing encounter in the House of Commons is reported to have occurred as Churchill was orating about mankind, saying "Man" this and "Man" that. Every time he would mention "Man," Lady Astor would interject: "...And Woman, Mr. Speaker...And Woman!" Finally Churchill is supposed to have exclaimed, "In this context, Mr. Speaker, the understanding is that Man EMBRACES Woman."
