Mad European Disease

Apparently, appeasement's more contagious than Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy, at least according to Javier Solana, the EU's foreign policy chief, who:
warned against an over-reaction in the European Union following the bomb attacks in Madrid on 11 March. . . The fight against terrorism "must be carried out with various instruments. We need better co-operation between police, justice and intelligence services. We must expose the financial sources of international terrorism and raise the safety of our public transport." . . .

Mr Solana said "Europe does not find itself at war."
America didn't want war. But on September 12, 2001, we found ourselves at war--its timing chosen by the enemy. With or without continental Europe, most Americans know our future depends on controlling the timing of the war's end. Well, everyone aside from Democrats running for president (except Lieberman) and, say, the barking mad 30 percent on the extreme left (such as this traitor from San Francisco, also shown here (via Lileks and LGF)).

President Clinton tried treating terrorism as law enforcement. The result: Bin Laden and Saddam survived to scheme another day. Sending lawyers to do a lieutenant's job doomed thousands and cost billions.

Again, Mr Solana said "Europe does not find itself at war." He could have ended the sentence after the word "itself." (via Steven Den Beste.)
